There are many believers out there that claim that a sign that a ghost or spirit is close is their distinctive aromas. It is believed that the scent type that a spirit emits usually varies according to the type of message they are trying to convey.

The ghosts that are trying to communicate with a loved one or friend can choose a variety of different ways to make a connection. Just about everyone knows about stories about misty forms that come to a person in a time linked with grief or a ghostly voice that speaks words of warning or comfort, but not everyone has heard about the spiritual messages that are conveyed through smell.

Over the years, science has gone onto prove that memory and scent are tightly connected. The odors associated with sulfur, rotten eggs, mildew or rotting food have often been reported where an unfriendly or unhappy ghost is said to reside. The demonic smells are often given the description of something that is terrible, grotesque or rotten. Some people have even reported that they can smell a rotting corpse. Certain people also state that a person that is possessed by a demon will emit a putrid smell. However, in most cases, it is houses that are usually associated with more trouble.

In some cases, people have shared stories that they are able to smell when a person is going to die soon.  One of these stories was featured on the website True Ghost Tales from a woman who said that she would smell an earthy smell or fresh dirt when waking up in the morning.

After this experience occurred several times, the women made a connection. Within a day or two before a friend or family member’s death, she woke to this peculiar odor. She started to get to the stage where she wished this strange ability or gift would leave her. Unfortunately, it persisted and when it did happen, she was always left wondering who would be next.
