Whoops and cheers for the new season of The X-Files

The X-Files is back! ……Well almost, it returns to our screens a new six-part mini series on the 24th January.  That’s in the US.  For the UK release there has been no date confirmed yet.

After a 13 year hiatus Mulder and Scully are back tackling aliens, ghosts, mutants, monsters, and all other paranormal weirdness.

The first episode of the new season premiered last night at Mipcom, which is an annual Cannes based convention for companies and people who are working in the entertainment business.

The screening was attended by The Hollywood Reporter’s Scot Roxborough and according to him the audience “whooped and cheered as the closing credits rolled”.  Also the decision to use the original X-Files credits gained a rapturous applause too.

So judging by his report, the show sounds like its going to be rather good. Just as long is its better than the dross 2008 movie The X-Files: I want to believe!

The shows creator, Chris Carter told the audience “We thought about doing some changes to the original credits, but then it seemed like sacrilege, those credits were on 202 episodes. They belong on these next six”

Chris also spoke about the chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson and how it has always been a crucial part of the show.

If not for them, the anchor wouldn’t be there. We’ve told good stories along the way but without those two characters and their involvement, I think you’d have had less of a show,” he said

He was also careful not let any spoilers slip out, but he did hint that he would consider doing another mini X-Files series.  I guess it will depend on how the audience receives the new season, whether it will be a hit or miss.

He said: “For the future of The X-Files, if we are to come back, I think you’ll see us come back with these mini-series, if you will. Special events” ,”We used to tell a story over a long saga, 22 to 25 episodes. Now the arc is much sharper, from one to six. So I think we pack a lot more in to these six episodes.”

I for one can’t wait. I used to love The X-Files and looking forward seeing this new series.
