A lot of Most Haunted wasn’t real says a team member.

September 5, 2025

Most haunted was probably the first ghost hunting TV show that inspired the many ghost hunting TV shows that we see today and the many that we have seen and lost over the past twenty years or so. I never missed an episode and even watched a lot of their Most Haunted Live specials such as their Halloween and Summer Solstice live shows.

However, after a few seasons I started to question a lot of things that happened on their shows and live shows. Things that seemed fake, such as objects being thrown around that just happen to be off camera, Derek Acorah’s regular possessions, “Mary loves Dick” …remember that one?. And it actually turned out that Derek was mostly being a fraud on the show.

Just a few years ago I was told of a technique that they was used on the show using steel toe cap shoes to make taping sounds, and now Most Haunted member Richard Felix has admitted a lot of the show was faked.

Richard Felix on Most Haunted (2002)

During an interview for Sarasweirdworld TikTok channel, Richard Felix, who was the shows resident historian for six seasons, confessed that there was a lot that happen on the show that wasn’t real.

“I know that everything that happened on Most Haunted wasn’t real. We all know. It was an entertainment programme and it entertained people.

“When it started it was terribly impressive, but I know full well that they had to keep the public entertained all the time and unfortunately they believed that you needed a ghost every five minutes.

“For me, there was not enough investigation into what was happening. The crew apart from Derek and Ciaran, none of the crew knew anything about ghosts.”

“Every time they fell over, screamed, felt sick, got a headache or anything else… Have you ever heard anyone screaming before they faint?.. You just go down… Well, if you didn’t scream before you fainted the camera wouldn’t get to you in time.”

So there you have it. I guess somewhere in the back of our minds we already sort of new at the time.”

However, Richard does say some things that happened on the show were real and that his most scariest experience on Most Haunted was in cabin B340 on the RMS Queen Mary that is permanently docked in Los Angeles and used as a hotel and museum.

While he was sleeping in cabin B340, at 4:30 in the morning a crescendo of noise woke him up! Like someone was throwing a huge bundle of metal coat hangers from wall to wall.

Richard said “Ciaran O’Keeffe got his laptop filming me in bed, so I stayed there and went back to sleep. Everyone was told about it, We’ve got it on film. We get back to England and we’re watching footage in the edit room and we get all this footage with the noise – great stuff. But then, we hear footsteps going around my bed. And a voice that twice goes ‘mummy’. You ought to have heard Yvette scream.”
