Did you ever watch Most Haunted in its heyday? Viewers here in the UK would have seen it on Sky’s Living TV. Hosted by Yvette Fielding and her gang. They went hunting for ghosts all over the UK and the odd time abroad.
It seemed the whole cast and crew were family members or friends of the Fielding family, there were cousins, uncles and her husband. They all took part in the show along with a psychic medium guest who changed throughout the years. Most famous one Derek Acorah.
You could say Most Haunted started the whole ghost hunting TV show fad which has led to a whole load of ghost hunting TV shows you can watch nowadays.
I used to like watching Most Haunted many years ago, it was something different at the time.
I also used to look forward to the live TV shows, especially the Halloween Live specials. Some were worth watching for the whole three hours, if you could suffer the ad breaks every 10 minutes. I can still hear Paul Ross say “be right back after this short break”
Both in the TV series and the live shows they did séance’s, Ouija boards, and a whole host of other experiments to try and capture poltergeist and any other paranormal activity. Sometimes crew members would supposedly become effected by the presence of a spirit and the odd time become possessed which was very dramatic.
And then you got Derek Acorah who seemed to get possessed every week!
Anyway, all was well and good for many years until viewers started to suspected that most of it was fake.
Derek Acorah got ousted as being a fake by bringing up a name of highwayman called Rik Eedles at a haunted location which is an anagram of Derek Lies. Someone working on the show had suggested that name to the group before their investigation took place, knowing it was a made up name.
Then during one live show, something happened which almost certainly proved everything was fake, at least for that one live show.
From what I remember (I maybe wrong), Yvette’s husband Karl was seen throwing a knife onto the floor then trying to con the viewers it was done by a spirit. I guess at the time he didn’t realise he was in camera shot. The Most Haunted forums exploded with the cries of FAKE after what viewers had just witnessed.
I completely lost interest in the show after that, not to say I was starting to get quite bored if it anyway. I’m sure the show was dropped from Living TV not long after.
However if you’re a fan of Most Haunted, well good news as it is back with a new series on Really TV channel. It has been on a couple of weeks now so you may already know. I have only managed to watch one episode so far.
And on this Halloween, Saturday night, there will be a new Most Haunted Live. Yvette is leading the investigation team to a location that is said to be “haunted by one of the most violent poltergeist in the world”
There will also be multiple live feeds online so you can interact with social media throughout the 3 and half hour-long show.
The special guest is said to be Paul O’Grady who has been on ghost hunts before with Yvette. The show will be co-hosted by Rylan from Big Brother and Jamie East.
If you fancy tuning in, it airs at 9pm to 12.30am.
