The Channel Islands were occupied by Nazi Germany for almost 5 years during WWII. During that time, they became the most fortified place on earth with defences, gun batteries, miles of underground tunnels and secret hospitals.

Today, the remains of some of these places are still visible. I head to Guernsey to investigate claims of severe hauntings inside the German Underground Hospital. Nearly 2 miles of reinforced concrete tunnels, complete with operating theatres, morgues and wards where injured soldiers were brought to following the beach invasions in Normandy.

✈️⛴️
To visit Guernsey, flights can be booked with local airlines Blue Islands and Aurigny Air, and travel from the UK mainland: London, Southampton, Manchester, Birmingham, Exeter, Bristol as well as from other Channel Islands. A ferry service operates between Portsmouth, Southampton, Poole and Jersey. British citizens do not require a passport to visit the islands if travelling directly from mainland Britain.

The Underground Hospital is open to visitors between April and September 7 days a week, with entry £5 for adults £2.50 for under 15s. In October it is only open Tuesdays to Thursdays.

For October 2023, paranormal investigations on Guernsey are carried out by P.I.G.S, who run 2 nights of investigating at the Mirus battery and the Underground Hospital. To find out more, visit their website: www.the-pigs.co.uk

Batterie Mirus and Batterie Scharnhorst are maintained by volunteers at Festung Guernsey. Private tours can be arranged via local tour companies. Batterie Scharnhorst is free to visit and enter, and is located near L’Eclet.

Other recommended places of interest:
- German Occupation Museum
- La Vallette Underground Military Museum

If travelling to Guernsey, visit https://www.visitguernsey.com to find out about local tours. I highly recommend the half day/full day bus tours which take you to some of the wartime remains whilst doing a complete lap of the island, as well as some of the best sightseeing places such as The Little Chapel and Fort Grey.

The ghosts of the WWII German Underground Hospital in Guernsey 🇬🇬

February 5, 2023 5:04 pm

Bowes has been known as a paranormal hotspot for many years and an old school favourite for many ghost hunting groups.

Once the Springwell Colliery, this Railway yard became a huge part of employment in the local area at a time that the North East of England was leading the way for locomotive engineering and coal mining.

But sadly, working here was very dangerous and the list of fatalities at this site is enormous (more can be found in the colliery’s DMM page which has an incomplete collection of fatality reports).

And many are still said to be still here - some were never even recovered and there are known to be at least 27 men and boys still buried hundred of feet below this lane. They will probably be down there forever.

The accounts of paranormal activity here are frightening - some friendly, some extreme poltergeist activity.

This old railway yard has a tragic past

December 15, 2022 4:18 pm

Located in Tallinn's old town in Estonia, this old town house has thousands of tourists taking pictures of its infamous feature - a fake window, painted to look real after the original was blocked up to hide its dark past.

Known as the Devil's Wedding house, it is claimed that during its medievel period, a dark stranger turned up to help a financially broken and sobbing inn keeper that was ready to take his own life. He offered a huge amount of money to use his inn for a special event, but warned the man that anyone who went upstairs to look would die.

Sure enough, as the party went on after midnight, the inn keeper went upstairs, looked inside the door and dropped down dead. He had witnessed The Devil's Wedding.

The house was empty for years, but those who have stayed there talk about strange paranormal occurances. An old woman who wakes people up in the middle of the night to ask for food, a Soviet era airman...its not a suprise that this building was used by the KGB officers during the Soviet occupation of Tallinn.

People report hearing voices, footsteps and 'party' sounds, only to find the upstairs rooms completely empty. Even people sleeping in the apartment as guests have experienced horrific nights of ghostly activity. This just made me want to stay there! I booked it up, flew over to Tallinn, and investigated the building that all of the ghost walks and tour groups stop outside.
